Dowry harassment drives government school teacher to suicide

A physically challenged woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Matrala Thimmappa Colony in the town in the early hours of Thursday. According to police, Meenakshi (26) who was working as a teacher in a government school in Mantralayam Mandal, married Raju, a tea stall owner, two months ago.
Yemmiganur (Kurnool): A physically challenged woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Matrala Thimmappa Colony in the town in the early hours of Thursday. According to police, Meenakshi (26) who was working as a teacher in a government school in Mantralayam Mandal, married Raju, a tea stall owner, two months ago.
It was alleged that he started harassing her soon after their love marriage demanding more dowry. Unable to bear the dowry harassment, she ended her life. She reportedly mentioned the reason behind her extreme step in a suicide note. On hearing the news of the suicide, Adoni DSP K Srinivasa Rao visited the house. The body was sent for postmortem. Sub-Inspector Sankaraiah is investigating.
