Chittoor: The revenue officials have demolished more than ten houses here on Wednesday, which were constructed illegally on the land
belonging to Gangineni tank. Tense situation prevailed for some time as residents have refused to evict their houses but revenue officials
forcibly demolished them.

The then Joint Collector Pradhyumna had issued notices to the residents to evict their houses as they have encroached tank land. All the
residents are migrants from Tamil Nadu. It became difficult task for revenue officials to evict them as they have constructed pucca houses
on encroached land and residing for the last 20 years. Moreover, all the houses were given power supply and Chittoor Municipal
Corporation (CMC) has been collecting taxes from them.

District Collector Siddharth Jain gave instructions to CMC Commissioner to clear encroachments in city as he is very keen on getting
smart city status to Chittoor. Jain has decided to go for beautification of Gangineni tank with Rs 30 lakh for achieving smart city tag to
city. Speaking to The Hans India, a victim Jayamma has expressed anguish for demolishing her house without serving a notice. She
threatened to commit suicide if the government fails to provide pucca house for her.
