Anantapur: The district experienced a respite from scorching heat and high mercury levels recorded for the past one month on Tuesday with the climate changing with the blowing of cool winds and the city and parts of district experiencing showers. The people heaved a sigh of relief with the showers and cool breeze blowing into the houses.

The district for nearly a month experienced mercury levels as high as 40 degrees to 48 degrees Celsius. During the past one-and-a-half months as many as 32 deaths were recorded throughout the district.

Employees and old age people and students had a hard time putting up with the blazing heat.

People were confined either to their homes or offices and did not venture to come out in the afternoons between 1 pm and 4 pm. hot winds were blowing even after 6 pm after the sun set.

Even, agriculture workers particularly the NREGS workers were barred from work after 11 am. All works were undertaken as early as 6 amand wound up before 11 am to prevent sun stroke deaths.

Many houses can be found locked with people leaving to hill stations and other places where the temperatures are relatively on the lower side. However the people fear worsening of climatic conditions after a sudden change in climate and cool showers as generally a day of showers is followed by a rise in mercury.
