Alleges corruption in Polavaram and river-linkage projects

Eluru: APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu of cheating the people of the State by not securing the Special Status.
Speaking to press persons here on Sunday, he pointed out that as many as 815 complaints were lodged against the Chief Minister in various police stations on the charges of cheating the people.
In the same breath, he also hit out at Venkaiah Naidu. He wondered why the Union Minister who had earlier demanded Special Status for a period of 10 years was keeping silent when the Centre had ruled out the concession to the State.
Alleging that the TDP government had failed to resolve the issues of farmers in the State, he said that the Congress party would organise demonstrations on May 23 in all districts.
Demanding the State and Central governments to complete the construction of Polavaram project by 2018, he alleged corruption in the works to benefit contractors. While stating that river-linking was any new idea as being peddled by Chief Minister, he alleged corruption to the tune of Rs 500 crore in the entire programme of linking Krishna and Godavari rivers.
The Congress leader expressed his displeasure over Centre sanctioning only Rs 100 crore for Polavarm project. He appealed to the Centre to pump adequate funds for its completion within the deadline.
He wondered why the State government was taking so much of time to complete irrigation projects while recalling that Sir Arthur Cotton had constructed Dowleswaram Project within five years without modern technology at his disposal about 150 years ago.
