Visakhapatnam: The State government has sanctioned and released a sum of Rs 65 crore for 2016-17 fiscal to the AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation against the allocation of Rs 35 crore in 2015-16, which was spent towards payment of scholarships to the children of poor Brahmins under Bharatiya Education Scheme and under other welfare schemes.

Speaking to press persons here on Friday, corporation chairman I Y R Krishna Rao who visited the city on Friday said that the corporation was working to uplift the poor Brahmins economically, and many welfare schemes were being re-designed for the purpose.

He informed that as many as 11,000 beneficiaries had secured scholarships under Bharatiya Education Scheme and Vasishta scheme for college-going children during 2015-16.

He said they had made some changes to the Bharatiya Education Scheme this year in which orphans and single parent children having an annual income of Rs 3 lakh and studying class-X or lower classes would be given Rs 5,000 scholarship for class –I to V, Rs 10,000 from class-VI to X.

He said due to the lack of white ration cards, majority of community people were not availing Kasyp Scheme for food and shelter and so a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 would be given to the orphans and the differently abled persons. Those who were admitted in old age homes would be given Rs 3,000 per month and the scheme would be closed by June-end, he added.

In case of any problem, he asked the members of the community to contact the corporation on 18001023579.
