A strong admirer of late Dr Y Nayudamma, the leather scientist of the country, though never met the scientist, Vishnu Murthy floated a trust to honour the son of the soil and had brought several great personalities from the field of science and technology to Tenali.

Vishnu Murthy is credited with bringing top scientists and economists to this otherwise sleepy town and honouring them with the prestigious Dr Nayudamma Award every year. The awardees included the then chairman of AP Electronics Development Corporation, U V Warlu,

the then chairman and managing director of HMT, M R Naidu, agriculture scientist Dr M S Swaminathan, former Union Minister Prof. M G K Menon, Planning Commission former member Dr S Z Qasim, India’s milk man Dr Verghese Kurien,

Indian Space Research Organisation former chairman Dr K Kasturi Rangan, Planning Commission member Prof. J S Bajaj, atomic energy commission former chairman Dr R Chidambaram, National Knowledge Commission former chairman Dr Sam Pitroda, Radiation Oncologist Dr Nori Dattatreyudu, ‘BrahMos’ man Dr A Sivathanu Pillai and several others.
