Rains, lightning kill three in north Andhra

​Visakhapatnam: Three persons, including a three-year-old boy, died due to rains and lightning in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts in the early hours of Friday.

Three-year-old T Teja died on the spot and his mother T Meena sustained injuries when a house at Jute mill quarters of Chittivalasa area in Bheemili mandal of Visakhapatnam, was struck by lightning. The intensity of the lightning brought down the roof on them while they were asleep. The boy’s father was also present at that time. The condition of Meena is said to be stable.

Bheemili Inspector TA Naidu said the house was in a dilapidated condition and due to heavy rain, the roof collapsed on them. The CI said at the time of the incident, there were five persons in the house including Teja's father T Appalaraju.

They are residents of Anandapuram mandal. On Thursday evening, Appalaraju, Meena and Teja came to Meena's father Bujji's house in Jute mill quarters Chittivalasa, where the tragedy struck the family.

Parents and other family members were seen inconsolable due to the loss of young life. Bheemili police registered a case. In two other incidents, a 30-year-old housewife died after she was struck by lightning in Saluru. She came out of the house in the early hours to feed the cattle.
