House owners demand fair deal in compensation

Vijayawada: Residents of Arjun Street in Mallikharjunapet here demand for a fair deal in compensation for their houses. It may be noted that Krishna district administration decided to demolish the houses in Arjun Street as part of development works of Sri Kanaka Durga Temple for Krishna Pushkaralu.

The revenue officials conducted survey recently and issued notices to the residents. The district officials also conducted a meeting with house owners and asked for their options. Majority of the house owners demand fair deal and allotment of houses as they are losing shelter.

The house owners insist on transparency in payment of compensation for houses without any favour for those having political influence.

The Kanka Durga Temple authorities are insisting on demolition of buildings in Arjun Street to increase circulating area near Mallikharjuna Maha Mandapam as thousands of devotees visit the temple during Krishna Pushkaralu. The temple authorities also took possession of Gosala site.

However, a devotee MN Raju expressed doubts over completion of works if the officials start demolition of buildings in Arjun Street. He said that the temple authorities started demolition of several structures atop Indrakeeladri. He said that the officials should complete the development works near the temple at first.

It may be noted that the temple authorities closed the ghat road last week and started demolition of structures including Bhavani Mandapam near the main temple.

The officials are allowing the devotees to reach the temple through Mallikarjuna Maha Mandapam.

As the rainy season started both the officials and devotees express doubts over completion of temple development works before Krishna Pushkaralu.

Meanwhile, the district officials are in a hurry to complete the approach road to Kummaripalem to provide connectivity to Bhavanipuram region from main city.

As the road connects the Durga Temple ghat road, the officials are in a hurry to complete the road works despite of heavy rains.
