Nellore: Rescue teams of Krishnapatnam port saved lives of nine fishermen who were stranded in the sea when their fibre boat was damage. During the midnight on Tuesday, officials of the port received communication that villagers of Madhura Nagar had not returned from fishing, and family members appealed for search operations.

The Port control wing launched search and rescue operations immediately with marine staff members and villagers, and instructed dedicated boat ‘ML Kandaleru’ to move for operations with search party. The boat left the port and conducted search operations whole night for the missing fishermen.

At 10.25 AM on Wednesday crew of ML Kandaleru reported that nine people were found in a distance of about 18 nautical miles south of south port limits of Krishnapatnam Port. All nine fishermen are safe in two fibre boats. They were taken on board ML Kandaleru and their fibre boats were secured with the search boat towing towards Krishnapatnam Port. Finally, nine fishermen safely reached the fishing jetty at the port at 12.30 pm.

They, in fact, ventured into sea on Tuesday in two boats early morning for fishing and the boats faced strong surface winds and failure of engines. They anchored in 40 metres depth and informed over mobile phone to the family members about their situation.

The rescued fishermen are: P Rajasekhar, S Srinu, V Srinivasulu, A Vasu, V Vinod Kumar and V Gangadhar from Madhura Nagar, K Ganesh, K Venkateswarlu and A Tirupati from Adala Nagar.
