Minister Palle to attend Alluri Jayanthi today

Visakhapatnam: State Information Minister Palle Raghunadha Reddy will attend to the State official function of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju Jayanthi to be held at the Port Kalavani stadium on Monday.

The Minister will reach the city at 7.30 am from Bangalore and directly go to the Government Circuit House. He will meet the family members of Sai Srinivas, an engineer who was kidnapped in Nigeria at 9.30 am before going to Vizianagaram to attend a function. Later, he will reach the city at 5 pm to participate in the Alluri Jayanthi celebrations.

Meanwhile, MLC Sarma who participated in a seminar organised by the city unit of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) here on Sunday to mark the occasion of Alluri Jayanthi celebrations, condemned the attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inviting foreign direct investments in the name of reforms. Opposing such foreign reforms was real tribute to the great revolutionary leader and freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, he felt.

The MLC lamented that there was no change in the lifestyle of the common people even after 67 years of Independence and that of poor tribals had been deteriorating day by day. Pointing out the failures of both Central and State governments in utilising the youth power available locally, he alleged that they were not taking initiative to fill-up the posts lying vacant for long. While Alluri had sacrificed his life for tribals by chasing the British, the present TDP Government was planning to do injustice to the same tribals which should be condemned, he added. Encouraging foreign culture and inviting foreign direct investments into the country was nothing but damaging the very revolutionary spirit of Alluri, the MLC said, and called upon the youth to oppose the foreign reforms taking Alluri as inspiration.

State DYFI Secretary M Surya Rao alleged that both Narendra Modi and Chandrabau Naidu were known for retrenching employees rather than providing employment in the last two years. He informed that the DYFI would agitate with a demand to provide employment to the educated unemployed. City secretary V Krishna Rao who presided over the seminar demanded that locals be given priority in Gangavaram Port, WIPRO, Tech Mahendra and also in the Corporate hospitals coming up in the Health City. Earlier, Sarma and Surya Rao garlanded the portrait of Alluri and paid homage.
