Visakhapatnam: Former Minister Konathala Ramakrishna appealed to all the MPs of north Andhra to raise their voice about the neglect of north Andhra and highlight its backwardness in both the Houses of Parliament in the ensuing session which is scheduled from July 18.

Ramakrishna told reporters here on Wednesday that he would be grateful to all the MPs on behalf of north Andhra people if they could take up the burning issues not only in Parliament, but also with the Union Ministers concerned.

Two years have passed since the bifurcation of the State, but Uttarandhra received only Rs 300 crore against the requirement of Rs 15,000 crore, he pointed out.

He urged the MPs to exert pressure on the Centre to immediately release a special financial package of Rs 15,000 crore for Uttarandhra and the Centre should form a Special Authority to implement the package by framing adequate guidelines under the direct monitoring of public representatives and stakeholders.

Stating that Uttarandhra is on the brink of environmental hazard, the for
mer minister recalled that the Central Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI) said in 2008 that Vizag is the most polluted city in the country.

He further stated that the government should roll back its decision on bauxite mining in the Agency as it causes irreversible damage to the environment. Similarly, he urged the MPs to exert pressure on the Centre and the Prime Minister to shelve the proposed two nuclear power projects as they, too, pose a threat to environment.

He urged the MPs to demand the Centre for more funds for the early completion of the multi-purpose irrigation project Polavaram which is the lifeline of the State.

To address the requirements of domestic and industrial sector, Konathala urged the MPs to initiate steps for taking up Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Project with Rs 1,200 crore on the lines of Pattiseema project. “I am confident that you will succeed if each one of you join hands in highlighting the backwardness of Uttarandhra”, he added.
