Kakinada: The internationally acclaimed Kadiyam Nurseries in East Godavari will soon get Solar Hub status.Special incentives in the form of subsidies are being extended to nurseries in Kadiyam region with 500 solar pump sets of 5 HP capacities.

Under this programme, the pump set costing Rs 3.89 lakh being provided to the selected farmers for just Rs15,000. Of the remaining amount, the New and Removable Energy Development Corporation of AP (NREDCAP), the nodal agency of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will bear 33 percent totaling to Rs 1.62 lakh. The AP government will extend Rs 40,000 subsidy under NTR Jalasiri programme and the rest of the amount will be borne by AP Transco.

The notable feature in this is all these 500 farmers are exempted from Water Land and Tree Act, 2002 (WALTA) and can extract groundwater round-the-clock and 365 days in a year without any restrictions.

With the extension of these sops, several farmers have extended the activity with fruit plants, flora plants, ornament plants, Jennie and allied plants in their respective areas.

Kadiyam Nurseries Association general secretary Mudragada Veeresh, a post-graduate in Bio Chemistry, felt that the solar power was eco-friendly and would not pollute environment. “This is besides providing the water round the year at relatively no cost with primary investment of Rs 15,000 only. It will be of immense help to the sector,” he felt.

We feel that we are part of this continuous activity by producing the plants for the environment protection at massive scale at both State and national level,” he observed.

East Godavari NREDCAP district manager G Satyanarayana said that out of the 500 total selected farms, they completed the distribution of solar pump sets to 287 farms by second week of July. “We will complete the process by next few days.” he said.

It is also observed that despite the continues extraction of groundwater by these sections, there will not be any deletion of groundwater levels as River Godavari passes from the nearby areas of these nurseries,” he said.

The entire activity is going on under the watchful eye of District Collector H Arun Kumar who is keen in developing this activity as one of the best at national-level,” he added.
