Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that completing Polavaram project on time would be a befitting tribute to K L Rao. He was the chief guest at the 114th birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary engineer, organised by the Ministry of Heavy Irrigation, here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Naidu lauded the intellect of K L Rao, who designed the prestigious projects like Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichinthala. “He has done a thorough research for Sri Ram Sagar project, which is regarded one of his best works.
For his contributions in the industry, the then Prime Ministers Lal Bahadur Sastri and Jawaharlal Nehru appreciated K L Rao. The fact that he was elected unopposed as MP from Vijayawada, speaks volumes about his ability,” he averred.
The Chief Minister called upon the engineering students to draw inspiration from K L Rao, who started innovating projects from his college days. “Teachers should encourage students to try projects on drinking water, water supply to the fields and the like.
Projects that utilise less human effort and can be conceived within marginal expenditure, are the need of the hour,” he stated.K L Rao’s son Vijay Rao was felicitated on the occasion. Minister for Irrigation Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, chief secretary S P Tucker and others also spoke.
