Demand on the rise for physiotherapy at RIMS

Every day 60 patients are undergoing physiotherapy for paralysis, orthopedic problems, back pain, knee joint pains and ankle joint pains. In all, 15 different kinds of machines are being used for the treatment.

Patients with different problems are approaching RIMS physiotherapy unit to get better treatment for free of cost.

Meanwhile, private practitioners are exploiting patients by collecting huge fee for physiotherapy in the name of home visits.

The poor and middle class people are unable to bear charges collected by private physiotherapists.

“My right hand fingers were affected in an accident, now I got better grip of my fingers after taking physiotherapy treatment at RIMS physiotherapy unit”, said G Ramachandra Rao, a patient of P N Colony in Srikakulam.

“In this unit, 15 different machines are available and we can serve 15 patients at a time, but more patients are approaching us. Hence, some more machines with a large room is required to provide better service to patients”, according to head of the department of physiotherapy unit at RIMS Dr K Lakshmana Murthy.

At present two physiotherapists are working on a contract basis, two staff nurses are available and at least three more physiotherapists and four staff nurses are required, he pointed out.
