Visakhapatnam: Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao launched online fee payment system here on Saturday at the University Computer Centre.The new payment system would facilitate the second year students of Post-Graduate courses to remit fee through online and the facility was limited to the Andhra University Science College only as of now which could be extended to other colleges later in a phased manner.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that efforts were on for computerisation of all the varsity services and utilising the available resources, they were trying to provide better and instant services.

He called upon the students to utilise the opportunity. Rector Prof E A Narayana, Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao, Principal of AU Science College C V Raman, Director of Computer Centre Prof V Valli Kumari, Dean of Student Affairs Prof P Hari Prakash and C Ramakrishna were present.

Surprise checks: Vice-Chancellor Prof Nageswara Rao made surprise checks at Andhra University Boy’s Hostels on Saturday and interacted with the inmates about the facilities and problems. He asked the inmates to attend classes regularly without confining to the hostels and not to accommodate strangers. A strict vigil has been kept on the movement of hostellers, he added.

Later, he went to the Department of Commerce and Management and asked the teachers to initiate steps to ensure full attendance of the students. After verifying the attendance registers of teachers, non-teaching staff and researchers, he said that if any student abstains from classes regularly, his or her hostel facility would be cancelled.

At another programme held in the varsity, the Vice-Chancellor called upon the retired staff to extend service to the varsity which is very valuable. He honoured Prof S Mohan Rao and Prof K Sudarsana Rao of Telugu Department and Controller of Exams D Nataraj on attaining superannuation.
