All ships and establishments of  Eastern Naval Command, including outstations units from Tamil Nadu area, took part in the event. The aim of the event was to popularise the sports of cross-country amongst service personnel and to select ENC X-country team. 

Visakhapatnam: Fleet A emerged the champions and lifted the Eastern Naval Command X Country Championship for the year 2016-17 held at INS Dega here on Saturday. Fleet B was runners up in the event.

All ships and establishments of Eastern Naval Command, including outstations units from Tamil Nadu area, took part in the event. The aim of the event was to popularise the sports of cross-country amongst service personnel and to select ENC X-country team.

The cross-country was conducted over a distance of 12 kilometres on the premises of the Naval Air Station, INS Dega and the participants were grouped into seven teams of 12 runners each.

The championship was governed by the rules of International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

The event was very keenly contested and eventually the individual race was won by Pawan Kumar, SEA-I of Local Flotilla team, Praveen Kumar, SEA-I of Fleet A team was the runners-up.

Commodore Debanil Bhattacharya, Commanding Officer, INS Dega, was the chief guest for the event and gave away prizes to individual winners and trophies to the winning teams.
