CPM district secretary K Kumar Reddy said that the indiscriminate use of police force portend the dangerous move of the government to stifle the voice of Opposition. If it is allowed to go unchecked, things will turn from bad to worse, he warned while appealing to members of civil society, intellectuals and rights activists to extend support to condemn the suppression of democratic rights.

The CPM leader particularly took strong exception to police using force in arresting activists at odd hours in their homes and said it brought back the dreadful memories of ‘Emergency’ days. For the first time, section 30 of Police Act was imposed on the day of bandh, to check meeting and rallies without prior permission but police took the leaders into custody from their homes, he said, describing the TDP rule as police rajyam.

Chandragiri YSRCP MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy said that special package in no way helps the State in generating jobs for youth. Ridiculing the BJP denying SCS citing 14th Finance Commission guidelines as a lame excuse, he said the YSRCP is ready to join hands with Left parties to fight for SCS.

MLC Y Srinivasulu Reddy felt that SCS is the only way for the development of the State particularly in backward areas like Rayalaseema, while CPI district secretary Rama Naidu warned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that he cannot suppress the movement with use of force.
