Vijayawada: The construction of the Assembly building at the temporary Secretariat complex at Velagapudi is progressing at a brisk pace.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu confirmed during the recent Assembly session in Hyderabad that the next Assembly session would be held at Velagapudi. Following the CM’s announcement, the pace of works has picked up. The Assembly hall, CM chambers, chambers of the opposition party leader, Speaker and Council Chairman are yet to be completed.
Officials exuded confidence that the entire works would be completed by December. The construction of the temporary Secretariat began nearly seven months ago. Although it was initially decided to construct only a temporary Secretariat, the Assembly building was also included later in the scheme of things.
Six buildings are currently being built on a G+1 basis. Each building would comprise one lakh square feet area along with the Assembly building. However, the building plan for the Assembly is different to the other five buildings.
The Assembly hall would be eight metres high and a roof top cover has been designed exclusively for the building. All the chambers for the C, opposition leader, speaker and council chairman would be accommodated in the hall.
The design of the chambers was changed recently after suggestions from ‘Vastu’ consultants apart from a few changes proposed by officials for the sake of convenience.
One chamber has been earmarked for two Ministers. CRDA officials said that the entire building is being modelled along the lines of the Hyderabad building.
Audio system, electricity, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and fire-fighting system are some of the key focus areas of the officials. Engineering giant L&T is executing the works.
Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu inspected the works at the temporary secretariat on Thursday and held a review meeting with officials.
He gave instructions for all the works to be completed according to schedule and said the next Assembly sessions would be held at the new Assembly building in February.
