Vijayawada: The state Cabinet which met here on Tuesday decided to amend the Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure Development Enabling Act to facilitate the movement of files relating to infra projects directly to the Cabinet for ratification.The government is understood to have been toying with amending the Act to ensure a smooth passage for the projects to be taken up by Singapore firms in the start-up area of the capital region under the Swiss Challenge Method. The going for approval of the very Swiss Challenge Method was found tough when Chief Secretary SP Tucker sat over the related file seeking legal opinion even after forwarded by the Capital Region Development Authority headed by the Chief Minister sometime back.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet mooted changes to the AP Rent Control Act, 2011. A draft bill modifying the Act will be introduced in the upcoming Assembly session for passage in bid to safeguard the interests of house owners. The minister said the government thought of protecting the rights of the property owners in the light of complaints of harassment by tenants. Similarly, it was decided to float AP Tourism, Culture and Heritage Board replacing the department of tourism, heritage and culture. The government will amend the Andhra Pradesh NG Ranga Agriculture University Act, paving the way for establishment of new agriculture and veterinary colleges under private sector.
The Cabinet resolved to allow a food park at Bapulapadu in Krishna district under the management of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. Accordingly, it was decided to acquire over 700 acres from farmers at the rate of Rs 7.5 lakh per acre.The Cabinet set tone for formation of urban development authorities- two in the Rayalaseema region with Anantapur and Kurnool as headquarters—each at Nellore, Rajahmundry and Kakinada.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister said the Cabinet has decided to act tough against the seed companies accused of cheating farmers by supplying spurious seeds. The police were directed to register cases against the managements of three seed companies under the Preventive Detention Act and get them to pay compensation to the victims.
