Vizianagaram: Around three lakh devotees witnessed ‘Sirimanotsavam' of Sri Pydithalli Ammavaru on Tuesday.

People believe that ‘Siri Manu’ means tree of wealth. ‘Siri’ means wealth and ‘Maanu’ means tree. So, the tree gives wealth, hence, they offered prayers to ‘Sirimanu’ with devotion.

As per schedule, the procession of Sirimanu started at 4 pm at Chaduru Gudi of Pydithalli and moved slowly towards fort. Chief priest of temple Tallapudi Bhaskara Rao has mounted ‘Sirimanu’, which is around 40 feet, and it was fixed on a cart and it is pulled by the devotees.

Bhaskara Rao, who sat on ‘Sirimanu’ blessed the public. The procession was taken out three times between the temple and fort. After completion of third round, Thallapudi Bhaskara Rao alighted from ‘Sirimanu’ and offered prayers to Goddess. The people offered fruits and clothes to Goddess during the procession.

All the roads were blocked as thousands of devotees arrived in the town to witness the holy event. Anjali Ratham is a cart, on which five women sit and follow Sirimanu. Legend has it that, all the five women are close associates and assistants (Cheli Kattelu) of Pydithalli and they are also given an important role in the festival. Local fork arts like Puli Veshalu, Karra Samu were performed during the festival by the local artistes.

Hereditary trustee and Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and other members of royal family, District Collector Vivek Yadav and other VVIPs are seated on the fort and got the blessings of Goddess. Thousands of women visited Goddess in the temple with ‘ghatams’ on their heads and offered prayers to her. All the departments were involved in the event and made it a success without any untoward incident.

Demand for ‘Sirimanu’ pieces There is a huge demand for pieces of Sirimanu as the locals believe that piece of the log, which has the power of Pydithalli, will increase their wealth.

After completion of the procession, Sirimanu log will be kept at Pydithalli temple for three days and during these days locals get some pieces of log and put them in their cash bags and almirahs.
