Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation health department has intensified the cleanliness drive in all the hotels in the pilgrim city. A contingent of health and sanitation personnel, led by corporation health officer Dr Ushakumari and comprising sanitary supervisor Govardhan and sanitary inspectors, inspected the hotels in the TTD pilgrim complex in Srinivasa area here on Friday.

The inspection began 10 days ago under Swachh Sarvekshan of Swachh Bharat Mission and covered as many as 66 hotels, including big, medium and small, in the pilgrim city in the three rounds so far. Eateries and hotels without licences where closed, while notices were issued to hotels where cleanliness was poor.

Corporation health officer Dr Ushakumari told The Hans India that the special drive, ‘Thematic Cleanliness’, was launched to ensure cleanliness in all the hotels in the corporation limits to protect the health of the pilgrims and the local residents. The drive would continue till all the hotels were covered under Swachh Sarvekshan.Hoteliers were also given time to complete the works for the proper upkeep of the premises. Stringent action would be taken if the hoteliers failed to comply with the measures sought in the notice, she said.
