Eluru: West Godavari principal District Sessions Judge N Tukaramji called on the youth to come forward to extend social justice to the poor and common people in society.

Participating as the chief guest at the ‘legal awareness’ meeting conducted as part of National Legal Services day on Wednesday at Sir CR Reddy Women’s college in Vatluru, Tukaramji said that the Indian constitution was oxygen to the people and had bestowed certain rights and responsibilities on the people.

However, lack of awareness on this aspect was resulting in denial of social justice to many poor people who were being victimized, said the Judge.

In view of this, the Legal Services Authority has to extend free legal assistance to those poor people, he said and pointed out that the Legal Services Authority had been conducting Lok Adalats at State, district and mandal levels and suggested that the youth extend legal assistance to the people who were not aware of the fundamental rights granted them by the constitution.

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary A Narasimha Murthy said that DSLA had decided to conduct legal awareness programmes in schools and colleges to create awareness among the students on legal matters.

Government Pleader Chalasani VEnkayya, Lawyer Mahalakshmi, Sir CR Reddy Educational Institutions Chairman Kommareddy Rambabu, Correspondent Ch Viswanatha Rao, Eluru Bar Association President Abbineni Vijayakumar, Eluru lions Club President Kanala BV Ramesh and Women’s College principal P Sailaja addressed the meeting.
