Power supply in 7 coastal mandals was disrupted due to strong gale winds, which uprooted electric poles in Vakadu, Sullurpet, Naidupet, Venkatagiri, and Chittamur mandals.

In total power supply was disrupted in 594 villages in 18 mandals.

Senior officials from SPDCL said that 90 per cent of power was restored in all urban areas.

Works have been going on in some parts of the coastal areas and power would be restored by Tuesday midnight.

As many as 820 poles were damages across the district and of which 598 poles have been restored. 220 poles in agriculture fields are yet to be restored.

Minister for Municipal Administration Dr P Narayana, who interacted with officials on Tuesday, said that rainfall has been very useful to the farming community though the cyclone devastated areas in some coastal areas.

“Upland areas in the district received 8.6 cm rainfall on an average due to impact of cyclone Vardah,” he added.

He warned of stern action against officials, who fail to provide relief and rehabilitation in cyclone-affected areas.

“Somasila reservoir has constantly been receiving 8,000 cusecs of water and Kandaleru was receiving 2,000 cusecs from inflows in the upper areas,” said the Minister.

Further, rains damaged crops like banana and vegetables in Leguntapadu, Inamadugu, Kovur, Patur, Jagadevipeta, Gudur, Kota, Vakadu, Podalakur, Indukurpeta, Kodavalur, Vidavalur, and BR Palem mandals.

About 30 to 40 per cent of
banana trees were uprooted due to strong gales.
