Visakhapatnam: Standing tall at 120 metres from the sea level, India’s tallest tower is coming up atop Kailasagiri Hills in less than one year.
The tower will offer a panoramic view of the sea, city and surrounding areas.
Mumbai-based Bombay Amusements Ltd, the promoters of the project is partnering with Hyderabad-based Swarnamukhi EXIM Pvt Ltd to execute the project.
An MoU, in this regard, will be signed with either Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority or Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation on January 6.
A special purpose vehicle would be launched for the Rs 70-crore project.
“We have identified three locations to build the tower - Yendada under Survey Number 1 adjacent to the National Highway 16, atop a hillock in Madhuravada close to the IT SEZ, and Kailasagiri.
It is up to the promoters to choose the sight and reach an agreement,’’ said Executive Director of AP Tourism Development Corporation, R Sriramulu Naidu.
Elaborating on the project, Naidu said that the team would meet higher officials in Vijayawada on January 5 and the following day there would be another meeting with VUDA and APTDC officials before finalization of the agreement.
The tower, to be built by a German-based manufacturing company, will be made of special steel and at a height of 120 meters, will have the capacity to withstand a wind speed of 300 kilometers per hour.
70 people can be easily taken to the top of the tower where there will be an air-conditioned revolving restaurant. Besides, a host of amusement parks will be put up surrounding the tower.
Suggestions have been made to the promoters to build the tower at Endada or Madhuravada as Kailasagiri Hill is jammed with Telugu Museum, Circular Rail and other entertainment including a beautiful park,’’ the executive director said.
However, Vinay Kumar Reddy of Swarnamuhi is keen on Kailasagiri as the place is the most visited spot in the city and takes less time in reaching the tower.
He said that the Kailasagiri Hill would also add another 300 feet putting the peak of the tower at 650 feet above the sea level.
The national flag would be hoisted atop the tower marking the highest point of the country.
Vinay told The Hans India that the tower could have been built in few weeks if not for the German manufacturer’s lack of readiness to be available to take up the project as it sought one year time on account of being preoccupied with other orders.
Presently, there are 18 high sky towers in the world with Tiger Tower being the tallest located in the Sentosa Southern Islands in Singapore standing 131 meters tall.
The tiger tower gives a panoramic view of Singapore and the adjoining Malaysia and the Indonesian islands.
The Sky Tower, yet to be named by the AP government, will emerge as a distinctive landmark of the city.
The tower, if commissioned, will become the biggest tourist attraction in the State, said the Executive
Director Sriramulu Naidu.
