Vijayawada: Nara Brahmani, the daughter-in-law of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, became the centre of attraction on the second day of ongoing National Women`s Parliament at Pavitra Sangamam here on Saturday.
In her address, she emphasised the importance of education to girls, which will make them empowered. She said while our country elected women heads much before many developed countries, but women were deprived of getting equal pay for equal work despite stringent laws.
The women are facing physical and mental harassment in every field and only through education they can effectively fight back against gender bias, she opined. “Don`t wait for opportunities to come to you, rather take the matters in your hands and self help is the key for women empowerment,” Brahmani said.
While referring to gender inequality, she said even in corporate sector women are not getting equal opportunities despite not being inferior to men. A recent study shows only five per cent women in India make to top leadership positions in corporate sector against global average of 20 per cent, she said.
Expressing happiness over participating in the NWP, which is being held at Amaravati, she said that the city which was ruled by great emperor Gautamiputra Satakarni, who had honoured womanhood by taking his mother's name his name and calling himself Gautamiputra Satakarni, indirectly referring to the recently released movie of her father and actor N Balakrishna.
In this context, she praised TDP founder NT Rama Rao for giving equal rights to women in ancestral property and importance to women education. “During his tenure 'Anna Garu'(NTR) had brought forth a law for the first time in the country giving equal rights to women in ancestral property. He also established the first-ever women's university i.e Padmavathi Mahila University. Reservations were given to women in local bodies.
Later, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu(without referring to him as father-in-law) continued this tradition of honoring women by forming women self help groups, which presently raised to 10 lakh with 1 crore members,” Brahmani lauded.
While stressing that women empowerment should begin from home, the executive director of family owned Heritage foods, said in her family women were always encouraged to pursue their passion. Our company is giving top priority to women empowerment and women are employed in dairy management, she claimed.
