Visakhapatnam: A condolence meeting was conducted at the Senate Hall of Andhra University here on Saturday to pay homage to Vice- Chancellor of JNTUA Prof M M M Sarkar who was killed in a road mishap recently.

Speaking on the occasion, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that he, along with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, was shocked to hear the untimely demise of Prof Sarkar who brought laurels to the university in a short span of time. He said the Chief Minister reviewed the situation with the officials immediately to take stock of the situation.

Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas Rao said that the state has lost a good educationist and asked the university teachers to draw inspiration from Sarkar in discharging their duties.

MP K Hari Babu said that the academic services of Prof Sarkar to Andhra University and JNTUA will be remembered as he had worked until his last breath for the development of the university.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Nageswara Rao said that Prof Sarkar had won the hearts of all sections of the society. Krishna University Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramakrishna Rao, the Andhra University authorities, teachers and employees attended.

Earlier, the Ministers and the Vice Chancellors paid rich tributes to Prof Sarkar by garlanding his portrait.
