Ryot leaders demand compensation of 5 lakh for each family
Former Minister and farmers’ leader Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao has demanded that the state government take measures immediately to pay compensation to the families of the 33 tenant farmers who committed suicide in Krishna district since the TDP was voted to power three years ago.
Vijayawada: Former Minister and farmers’ leader Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao has demanded that the state government take measures immediately to pay compensation to the families of the 33 tenant farmers who committed suicide in Krishna district since the TDP was voted to power three years ago.
The speakers said several tenant farmers ended their lives due to crop failure and other reasons in the last three years. Farmers’ leaders and representatives of various organisations addressed the tenant farmers at a meeting conducted by Rytu Swarajya Vedika at a private function hall at Auto Nagar here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao alleged that the government is ignoring the problems of lakhs of tenant farmers in the State. He said though 33 tenant farmers committed suicide in Krishna district, the government has not paid compensation to the kin of at least one farmer. He demanded that the government should pay Rs 5 lakh compensation to the kin of the families who committed suicide.
Yerneni Nagendranath, president of Andhra Pradesh Rytaanga Samakhya, alleged that the government is not giving Loan Eligibility Cards (LECs) to the tenant farmers. He said lakhs of tenant farmers were depending on the money lenders to borrow loans for cultivation.
He demanded that the government should take steps to distribute LECs to all tenant farmers as payment of loans in the Kharif season begins in June and July 2017. He pointed out that only 76,000 tenant farmers got Loan Eligibility cards in State against the 6 lakh tenant farmers identified by the government.
Rytu Swarjya Vedika State Committee member B Kondala Reddy said tenant farmers have been the victims of government’s negligent attitude. He said land owners were getting benefits from the government while tenant farmers were being deprived of compensation for crop loss.
He demanded that the State government should conduct proper inquiry over the suicides of the tenant farmers and take steps for payment of compensation to the kin of the victims. He said that the RDO, local DSP and Assistant director of Agriculture should visit the houses of the farmers who committed suicides.
But unfortunately it was not happening in the State due to negligence of the state government, he alleged. Special Chief Secretary B Rajasekhar said that he would bring the problems of the tenant farmers to the notice of the state government. He assured that steps wouldl be taken for distribution of Loan Eligibility Cards to the eligible tenant farmers.
