Eluru: The Municipalities and Grama Panchayats have to pay Rs.6.50 crore as library cess to the Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha in the district, said Jayyavarapu Sriramamurthy, Chairman, Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha. He was presiding over the general body meeting of Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha held at District Central Library here on Monday.
Speaking at the meeting, Sriramamurthy said that the Library officials are preparing a statement of the cess arrears and will send it to the concerned officials at the earliest. He said that during current financial year budget proposals have been drafted for the development of Libraries with a cost of Rs.16.86 Crores.
About 505 books worth Rs.34,000 were received as a donation to District Central Library and 44 books worth Rs.3,000 to Children's Library in Eluru received from the donors. The donors also presented Rs.12,000 worth 54 books to branch library in Devarapalli. The meeting has decided to place these books in the Libraries.
The Chairman said that an outlay of Rs.20 lakh was proposed to purchase computers and biometric machines in all branch libraries in the district. The meeting also approved to set up new library in Kalipatnam village of Mogalturu Mandal. It also decided to make available the news clippings for the purpose of readers.
For this, it has decided to file all the main newspapers.Explaining about the libraries construction, the Chairman Srirama Murthy said that the new building is under construction at Gollalakoderu in Bhimavaram Mandal. The construction of libraries in T. Narsapuram, Bhimadole, Lingapalem villages are pending as the revenue officials have to clear the land allotment.
Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha Secretary Ch Madhar, Assistant Librarian P Ramamohan, Information Assistant Director V Bhaskara Narasimham, Members Tammineedi Satyanarayana Murthy, R Venkata Satyanarayana, Bandi Sujatha, Gopisetty Ratnakumari and others participated in the general body meeting.
