AP Pollution Control Board chairman says paper industries in the country use 250 cubic metre water to produce one tonne while it is a mere 75 cubic metre in the West
Speaking on this occasion, board chairman G S Phanikumar said that managements of paper industry had to take suggestions from PCB on measures to control pollution and follow the norms strictly. He said that for production of one tonne of paper, industries in India were using 250 cubic metres of water, whereas it was only 75 cubic metres in the West. He suggested recycling of water, and the paper produced by the same industry.
The chairman said that there were 40 paper industries in the state, of which four were in both Godavari stricts.Environmental engineering joint commissioner Siva Reddy said that latest technologies that were coming up in the Western countries should be adopted by local industries to reduce adverse effects on environment. He said that those paper industries which were still using wood should take extra care in prevention of pollution and use modern technology.
Joint chief environmental engineer N V Bhaskar Rao said that paper industry should tune their industries according to the needs of the present day and come to the APPCB or environmental engineers for advice on restructuring their industries.
Central Pollution Control Board member B Sen Gupta, environmentalist Nitin Yandle, PCB regional executive engineer D Ravindra Babu and others took part in the meeting.
