Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reaffirmed that the Polavaram project would be completed as per the schedule by ensuring that there is no delay in the execution of the works.
​Polavaram (West Godavari): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reaffirmed that the Polavaram project would be completed as per the schedule by ensuring that there is no delay in the execution of the works.
He reviewed the Polavaram Project works with water resources engineers, contracting agency officials at project site office on the hilltop of Ramaiahpeta village in Polavaram mandal on Monday. Naidu directed the officials to monitor the progress of works continuously and extend the required assistance to the contracting agencies.
While expressing his satisfaction over the progress of works, the Chief Minister said that the works should be speeded up further. He pointed out that out of 10.55 crore cubic metres of earth work of spillway, so far 6.55 crore cubic metres (65 per cent) has been completed. The remaining earth works should be completed in the prescribed time, he directed the officials.
He said that out of 14.11 lakh cubic metres targeted earth works, so far only 32,000 cubic metres has been completed and the agency concerned should speed up these works. He said that out of 48 crest gates of spillway, three gates were completed and 1,600 tonnes steel was used for these gates.
He said a 100-metre diaphragm wall has to be constructed, and so far 28 metres has been completed.
The Chief Minister said that 65 per cent of Polavaram Left Main Canal works and 90 per cent of Right Main Canal works have been completed so far and remaining works would also be completed on time.
He said the District Collectors of East and West Godavari have already achieved the targets in respect of land acquisition, providing land for land to oustees and in R and R package implementation.
The Chief Minister assured that required funds will be sanctioned soon to complete the remaining works at the earliest. He said that under the Polavaram project, the contract agencies engaged about 3,500 to 4,000 workers in construction works and 1500 technical staff members.
He said about 500 unemployed youth were trained in rod bending, welding and other related trades and their services were being utilised in the project construction. He lauded West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar for taking initiative in this regard.
Ministers Pithani Satyanarayana, K S Jawahar, ZP Chairman Mullapudi Bapiraju, MLAs Muppidi Venkateswara Rao, Modium Srinivas, Water Resources Secretary Shashi Bhushan Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief M Venkate-swara Rao, West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar, East Godavari District Collector H Arun Kumar and Irrigation Chief Engineer VS Ramesh Babu participated in the review meeting.
