He conducted a review meeting at the camp office on the hilltop of Polavaram project site on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the site should be developed as a world-class tourist circuit along with Konaseema, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram and Narsapur. He directed the officials to appoint a world class consultant for the development of tourism in the Godavari districts.
Naidu suggested officials to make plans to set up 5-star and 7-star hotels in the area. “The Agency area should also be developed as tourist place,” he said and asked officials to pick islands in Godavari river that could be developed as tourist places.
Tourism secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena said that a plan would be chalked out within one month. West Godavari Collector K Bhaskar said that a comprehensive project report on Pattiseema tourism has been prepared and Swadeshi Swachhata funds from Centre have to be sanctioned.
Responding to the issue, Naidu directed water resources principal secretary Shashi Bhushan Kumar to consult the officials concerned. He asked the officials to develop the all the reservoirs in the state as tourist places and arrange water sports.
“Water is the pulse of the people and development is only possible through water. There is a link between nature and humans and every Sunday a programme should be conducted to celebrate it,” he said.
The chief minister ordered the tourism department officials to take part in the Polavaram review meeting to be conducted every Monday, hence forth.
He directed the contracting agency to complete the cofferdam works by 2018 and the project by 2019. “Quality is a prerogative,” he said and suggested Transstroy to import the modern machinery for the construction of spillway, diaphragm wall, concrete works.
Water resources minister Devineni Uma Maheshwara Rao, water resources principal secretary Shasi Bhushan Kumar, tourism secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena, tourism commissioner Rekharani, collector K Bhaskar, engineer-in-chief M Venkateswara Rao and others were present.
