Vijayawada: Doctor kidnapped by former driver, rescued

A doctor was kidnapped by his former driver in Vijayawada. However, the accused who along with his four accomplices who sketched this plan was arrested by the police.

The Vijaywada police presented the accused before the media on Sunday and stated that noted diabetologist Malempati Venkateshwara Rao had employed Kaki Vidyasagar as his driver for a while in 2016. However, he quit the job later and hatched a plan to kidnap the doctor to demand ransom money from the family.

The driver along with his three friends - M Ranjit Kumar, D Naga Dileep and M Banerjee plan to execute the plan along with a woman who was hired to befriend the doctor.

The woman, acted as a patient and began having regular phone conversations with the doctor. On June 28, the doctor was invited by the woman for a seminar on 'Woman Empowerment'. The woman along with one of the accomplices picked up the doctor at Ramavarapadu ring road and took him to a vacant flat in Narayanapuram colony where they sedated him.

The next day, the doctor's son Rajesh received a call from the kidnappers demanding Rs 30 lakh.

However, Rajesh informed the Machavaram police who traced the calls and arrested all the five involved in the scam.
