Kurnool: A ‘Happy Sunday’ event was held here on Sunday with the high and mighty of the city shaking a leg and to ease stress and tension in day-to-day lives mingling with people of all sections of society.

The officials and people’s representatives conducted a trial in this regard last Sunday. Overwhelmed by the good response, the event was celebrated with joy on Sunday. Right from children to the senior citizens everybody took part in the event to express their joy. SV Mohan Reddy addressed the people through public addressing system.

People mingled with each other cutting across their social status to relax and ease their work and family tensions. Kurnool Municipal Commissioner Harinadha Reddy said that the Happy Sunday programme would be conducted in each area for three or four hours.

Happy Sunday or record dances?

In the name of Happy Sunday, vulgar dances performed by Nagara Panchayat Chairman and Councillors forcibly
involving high school girls near the statue of Ambedkar in Atmakuru drew flak from various quarters.

This appears to be a record dance of sorts as they danced to the songs which are full of vulgar language. Women left the place turning their heads to other side. Even the Hijras who eke out a living by begging on the streets jeered at the record dances.
