Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that all Anganwadi Centres in the State will be converted into pre-schools.Conducting a video-conference on ‘Anganwadi Centres-Pre Primary Schools’ with Anganwadi workers and teachers on Wednesday, he said that 3,128 Anganwadi centres in urban areas will be rationalised and will be converted into 1,026 pre-schools, where 90,000 children will be admitted.

He said that the name of Anganwadi will be changed very soon. While terming the decision as historical, he said that Andhra Pradesh has become a role model for other States and entire country will follow the path shown by the State.
The classrooms should look beautiful with colourful wall paintings, toys, desks and tables with cheerful environment for which the government will spend Rs 2.4 lakh on each school, he said. He asked the teachers and staff to provide nutritious food to the children and make them as good students by teaching good behaviour.
Stating that the maintenance of pre-schools will be taken up by Municipal, Urban Development, Women and Child Welfare departments, Naidu said that a three-year-old child will be enrolled in Nursery, 4-year-old in LKG and 4 to 5-years-old will be joined in UKG.
Detailing that the Anganwadi teachers will be trained in English medium by the advisors appointed by Municipal and Urban Development Departments, he said the teachers will get special training on rhymes. The Municipal Administration Department will distribute the textbooks and workbooks to the children, he said.
The government will utilise the government buildings and municipal buildings for running Anganwadi pre-schools and if necessary we will take private buildings on rental basis, Naidu said.
“We have identified that about 803 centres against 1026 have building facility. Already paintings, LED TVs, attractive furniture was provided in 610 pre-school centres. We have asked to link these pre schools with fibre grid,” Naidu said. Later, the Chief Minister released textbooks meant for nursery, LKG, UKG. Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana was present.
