Kirlampudi: Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham’s padayatra was once again foiled by the police here on Wednesday. Padmanabham proposed padayatra to mount pressure on the government for according BC status to Kapus. Meanwhile, Mudragada Padmanabham was kept under house arrest for 24 hours.

When Mudragada set about to start on padayatra at 9.20 am, officer on special duty (OSD) Ravi Shankar Reddy stopped him at the main gate of his house and said that he was under house arrest for 24 hours. The officer also informed the Kapu leader that the government has not accorded permission for padayatra and asked him to go back. This led to altercation between Mudragada and Ravi Shankar Reddy.

A miffed Kapu leader wanted to know whether the police would allow padayatra after 24 hours. “Why the government is supressing Kapu community,” he questioned. Later addressing media persons, Mudragada lambasted Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for his step-motherly attitude towards Kapu community. “Is there any need to deploy thousands of police force for supressing Kapus,” he asked.

He said that the padayatra would commence as soon as the government withdraws police force. “It is the life and death problem of Kapu community. We are asking Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to fulfil the promise given at the time of election in the year 2014,” he averred.

Padmanabham asked Kapus to come to Kirlampudi everyday between 9 am to 10 am, until the government allows padayatra.
It should be recalled that in November 2016, the police prevented padayatra from Kirlampudi to Antarvedi and another padayatra from Ravulapalem to Antarvedi.
