Speaking at a meeting held at Sri Sri bhavan here on Wednesday, SFI state secretary S Noor Mohammad said the government was continuing the old mess charges which were enhanced in 2012 and demanded the state to increase them to Rs 1,500 as all the prices of commodities had increased.

Noor said a Permanent Annual Review Committee should be formed by the government and every year 10 per cent of the mess charges should be increased as per law. Many students were facing health problems due to consuming of unhygienic food at the hostels.

He criticised the ruling party for its failure to fulfil promises made in election manifesto. In the name of rationalisation many government schools were closed besides 220 welfare hostels in the State, he said and added only one egg was served per week unlike five eggs in a week.
