The eight-day long Asta Theertha Maharajayogam started on a grand note at famous Shiva Temple Srimukhalingam on Monday. The event conducted after every 17 years and devotees believe that the darshan of Lord Shiva during these days will rid of all their sins.

Srikakulam: The eight-day long Asta Theertha Maharajayogam started on a grand note at famous Shiva Temple Srimukhalingam on Monday. The event conducted after every 17 years and devotees believe that the darshan of Lord Shiva during these days will rid of all their sins.

On first day, devotees took holy dip in the river Vamsadhara at Bindhu theertham which is situated on the way to Karakavalasa from Srimukhalingam and had a darshan of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu located on Padmanabhagiri which is one kilometer away from the river.

Later devotees had a darshan of Lord Shiva at Srimukhalingam. About 5,000 devotees took holy dip in the river and had a darshan of temple shrines at Padmanabha giri and Srimukhalingam.

Narasannapeta MLA B Ramana Murthy and other local leaders participated in the event. Srikakulam DSP K Bhargavrao Naidu supervised the security at the location.

Endowment, Panchayat Raj, revenue, medical, rural water supply, fire, electrical and fisheries departments have arrangements to provide hassle-free darshan to devotees. APSRTC decided to ply 15 buses from all its depots across the district to the spot.
