Party leaders allege conspiracy in timingNellore: Now, it is the turn of the YSR Congress legislators who were allegedly involved in the sensational cricket betting case in the district to face the probe. It may be recalled that around 200 persons have so far been arrested by the police and the SP had now issued notices to two YSRCP MLAs for quizzing in the betting case while the electioneering is on for the Nandyal bypoll.

The police issued notices under section 160 CrPC to the City MLA Dr P Anil Kumar Yadav and Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy. The MLAs who are in Nandyal for bypoll campaign were served notices by a team of officials from the district police asking them to report on August 22 at the DPO.

It may be recalled that an MLA had allegedly received kickbacks of Rs 40 lakh from the main bookie Krishna Singh for managing the police case.

But, interestingly, the alleged mediator was found to be close aide of Rural MLA Sridhar Reddy who was asked to support the mediation process. In fact, according to sources, the police got strong evidence on the role of politicos, officials and others from a laptop which was used by the main accused Krishna Singh. The police suspected the role of some politicos and interrogated the accused and they found the role of Biradavolu Srikant Reddy of the YSR Congress, who is a close associate of MLA Sridhar Reddy.

Initially, he is said to have been at large and finally surrendered to the police. But, the police also gathered information from him on the role of an MLA from the Opposition in the case.

For doing the favour, the MLA has allegedly been paid Rs 40 lakh, police sources said, adding that the amount was deposited in a private bank in Bengaluru and has been transferred to a benami account of the legislator. “I have received notices from the police. I will co-operate in the investigation.

The SP has been stating that no role of any MLA was confirmed till now. I wonder why suddenly the police served notices on us,” said Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, when contacted.

Meanwhile, rumours were doing round in the district that two more legislators of the YSR Congress Party would soon receive notices. YSRCP leaders express surprise over serving the notices when they were busy with bypoll campaign. Dr Anil Kumar alleged that there would be political conspiracy in serving the notices at this time in Nandyal. He said he was neither a bookie, nor a punter or financer and ready for interrogation.
