The women of Reddy Kancharapalem are up in arms against the second liquor outlet, which is likely to be opened soon in their area. Nearly, 40 women petitioned to Collector Pravin Kumar at the Collectorate in Visakhapatnam on Monday during the grievance meeting.

As if the nuisance at a restaurant and bar outlet was not enough at Reddy Kancharapalem of GVMC 36th ward, another liquor outlet is getting refurbished for its launch beside the older one, lament residents of the area. Nearly, 1,500 families are living in and around the wine shop located near a bus stop, they added.
"During night time, lot of street fights taking place between the drunkards. It doesn't end there. Whoever woman or girl passes through the road of the area, they get abused by these men," said Kamala, a resident of Reddy Kancharapalem.
"Because of present liquor shop, none of the tenants are showing interest to stay here. If the new liquor outlet comes up, there would be more law and order issues," pointed out Chandra Devi.
Even as several protests by people are continuing for the last two months demanding the closure of liquor shops near residential areas, schools and religious places in the city, there is no response from the district administration on the matter.
After submitting the memorandum, the Collector directed the Excise department officials to consider the matter, Kamala said.
"Earlier, we stalled the new outlet opening. But now again they are intending to place the same outlet abutting another liquor shop. MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju has promised the locals that the liquor shops will be removed," said AIDWA city secretary R Madhavi.
