Chittoor: Officials of the Kanipakam Temple are disappointed with poor turnout of devotees for the ongoing Brahmotsavams of Lord Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy despite giving wide publicity. The 21-day annual Brahmotsavams began on August 25.
Highlights:
- Excellent arrangements were made anticipating devotees in lakhs for Brahmotsavams, says EO
- Claims devotees stayed away due to elections and inclement weather
Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao had presented silk clothes on behalf of the government to Kanipakam temple on the opening day of Brahmotsavams. The temple authorities made arrangements on a grand scale by spending huge funds for decoration and publicity. The number of devotees visiting the temple has drastically fell in the last five days due to
various reasons.
It is learnt that politicians reportedly did not attend the annual event as they were busy with Nandyal by-election and polls to Kakinada Municipal Corporation. It is a tradition for the elected representatives and higher officials of the district visit Kanipakam temple during the first week of the Brahmotsavams every year.
On the contrary, Industries Minister N Amaranatha Reddy, who represents the district, did not visit the temple as he was busy with Nandyal by-poll. The same was the case with district in-charge Minister Atchannaidu.
Speaking to The Hans India on Wednesday, Temple Executive Officer Purnachandra Rao expressed dismay over the poor turnout of devotees for the ongoing Brahmotsavams. “We have made excellent arrangements anticipating lakhs of devotees. Due to inclement weather and other unpredictable reasons, the attendance of the devotees during the last five days was not up to the mark,” he added.
He exuded confidence that pilgrims would visit the temple in large numbers on September 1 to participate in the car festival. The EO said that there was an excellent response for the ongoing devotional programmes in the temple. Irrespective of the inflow of devotees, free meal was being provided to all the devotees under Nityaannadanam scheme, he added.
