Penukonda (Anantapur): KIA Motors factory being set up with an investment of Rs 13,500 crore in this constituency is expected to be a blessing for the drought-hit Rayalaseema region, as it raises hopes of generating employment to youth. The works of the unit are going on at a fast pace and it is likely to offer direct and indirect jobs to 40,000 people.
As many as 599 acres in Yarramanchi, Ammavaripalli and Guttur villages have been acquired by the APIIC for the KIA factory, at the intervention of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who showed special interest in bringing the unit to Anantapur district.
Of the 599 acres, 535 have been handed over to KIA, the balance land is to be utilised for roads and meeting other infrastructure needs. District collector Veerapandian and KIA representatives like Lee, Riyo, Kim and Yantek are to take up a building near Ammavaripalli for procuring / arranging the required raw material for the factory.
Farmers, who offered their lands for the unit are looking forward to its completion with hope that their children would get jobs. Local youngsters feel that they need not go to cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad for employment, as they pin hopes on KIA.
Water for the factory is being arranged from the Gollapalli reservoir. The water pipelines are yet to be laid. Proposals for the pipeline costing Rs 125 crore have been sent to the government. Works on 220 kv sub-station to provide power supply is on.
The cell towers, powerlines and other structures in the government lands acquired for the factory have already been removed. The irrigation department has prepared plans, including the budget, for diverting water bodies and submitted them to the government.
Representatives of KIA have already set up temporary offices for their various tasks, including supervision of the construction work. The L & T company has taken up land development at a cost of Rs 174 crore. This task would be completed by October-end after which the factory’s construction would start, KIA representatives told The Hans India.
They said the trial run of the unit would be in March 2018 and launch of production in September 2019. The representatives praised the Chief Minster for showing special interest in the unit, by holding review meetings on a regular basis with the representatives and the district officials.
