Vijayawada: Fast-unto-death launched by three members of Arya Vysyas entered third day on Tuesday. TDP MLA Jaleel Khan and MLC Buddha Venkanna demanded that Kancha Ilaiah should tender an apology to the community as he hurt the sentiments of Vyyas with derogatory remarks against them in his latest controversial book ‘Samajika Smugglerlu Komatollu’.
The two leaders of the ruling party visited the fast camp at Vastralata and condemned the book. Addressing the gathering, Jaleel Khan said that probably Ilaiah was trying for popularity. The Vysyas were independent in nature and government was getting revenue from their businesses.
They neither committed any crime nor interfered in any issue. It was Ilaiah, who committed a wrong for which he need to seek an apology from the Vysyas. It would be gentleman’s attitude if Ilaiah tenders apology.
MLC Venkanna also warned Ilaiah against hurting the feelings of Vysya community. He suggested to Ilaiah to tender an apology so that no case booked against him. The community had never dependent on government and provided jobs to others. YSRCP leader Vellampalli Srinivas also came down heavily on Ilaiah for his derogatory remarks. Nobody has the right to abuse others.
He appealed to Ilaiah to beg pardon. He also attacked the state government for its inaction. Vysyas has the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Potti Sriramulu. Vysyas should fight till the government takes action against Ilaiah, he added.
AP Film Development Board Chairman Ambika Krishna visited the camp to express his solidarity with the community. He wanted Ilaiah to tender an open apology to ease tension.
The Telugu people have wisdom and would never support people like Ilaiah. Stating that Ilaiah termed Vysyas as smugglers, Krishna branded Ilaiah, a social terrorist. The visiting leaders met the three community members-- Tummala Srinivasulu, Dundi Rakesh and Ponnur Ram Kumar – who were on fast since Sunday.
