According to sources, the Animal Husbandry department has secured the seventh place in the state, while Horticulture is in the sixth, ‘Vanam-Manam’ in the 12th place, Neeru-Pragathi in fourth place and elimination of open defecation in 12th place. Except the Vanam–Manam and elimination of open defecation, the remaining departments like Animal Husbandry, Horticulture and Neeru-Pragathi were lagging behind compare to other districts in the state.
Interestingly, the horticulture cultivation which is the main sources of income and good returns on investment to the farmers just limited to the sixth place despite farmers cultivating horticulture crops in 2 lakh hectares against total cultivable area of 3.5 lakh hectares in the district. The poor performance attributed to various reasons.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his recent visits to the district, pointed out the necessity of promoting horticulture and floriculture in a big way as most of the land in district suitable for horticulture cultivation, following limited water sources available in the district.
Regarding the Neeru-Pragathi, district lagging in its implementation. However, there was some technical problem witnessing for implementing the schemes following Kadapa is one of the worst drought-hit districts in the State. But implementation of Neeru-Pragathi was seen very poor due to large scale of irregularities witnessed in the scheme.
Meanwhile, District Collector T Baburao Naidu, who returned from the two-day conference, was called by the Chief Minister on Friday and stressed the need of coordination between the officials and subordinates for effective implementation of the welfare schemes.
“There was big challenge before the administration over gaining double digit growth as per the aspirations of the Chief Minister by implementing developmental works and welfare schemes effectively. I am sure that officials would extend their support for improving the district rank in the coming days,” the Collector said during a review meeting.
