Tirupati: With the implementation of ‘No helmet, no fuel’ for the last one month has been yielding the positive results in the district, as most of the two-wheelers are following the rule. Based on the survey findings, 80 per cent of road fatalities are due to not wearing helmets, District Superintendent of Police (SP) S V Rajasekhar Babu had issued orders of compulsory wearing of helmet rule a month ago.

The survey also revealed 150 youngsters have died in road mishaps in the last two years. In all the cases, deceased did not wear helmets and drove vehicles at high speed. The Chittoor police are implementing various strategies to reduce road accident deaths like creating awareness in educational institutions, imposing fine for helmet rule violators, implementation of no petrol for not wearing helmet and emergency care for victims of road accidents.

After the implementation of ‘No helmet, no petrol’ rule, 40 per cent of bike riders are wearing helmets. This was evident as bike riders were seen wearing helmets in towns like Madanapalle and Palamaner apart from Chittoor city. The SP has been very particular in implementing the rule of wearing helmet must. Two days ago, the SP saw a home guard by name Muni Reddy without a helmet at MSR Junction.

He had suspended home guard immediately. It has made every cop to wear a helmet while driving. On Friday, the Chittoor police conducted a helmet awareness rally with 3,000 two-wheelers from PVKN Degree College to Police Grounds. Later, addressing a meeting, Anantapur Range DIG J Prabhakar Rao has appreciated the SP for effective implementation of wearing helmet compulsory. District Collector P S Pradyumna and other police officials have participated in the rally.
