Visakhapatnam: The small and middle-level traders are alleging that the bankers are not granting loans as per the government’s directive. The bankers in all the meetings informing the government that they are granting loans as per the credit policy but the ground-level facts are different.

When Visakhapatnam MP K Haribabu, MLA P Vishnukumar Raju, Commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayanana and others carried out field a survey on Sunday and came to know that small traders are not being granted Shishu loans.

MP Haribabu, along with the officials and bankers, went to fish market located here at VUDA Central Park on Sunday and interacted with the traders. Hundreds of fish traders from various villages in the district are coming to the city and doing the business.

MP Haribabu and other officials interacted with the traders. The MP asked them about the bankers’ cooperation to their business. About 95 per cent of the traders informed that they were vexed with banks as they are saying neither Yes nor No to their loan applications.

The Union government announced three schemes Shishu, Kishore and Tarun. Under Shishu, the bankers have to grant Rs 50,000 loan to the traders. The Urban Community Development wing of GVMC conducted a survey on street vendors and issued ID cards. However, the bankers are not considering the ID card and not issuing the loans.

After the visit, MP Haribabu lamented the bankers for poor implementation of Shishu scheme in Andhra Pradesh. In Karnataka, during 2016-17, the banks granted loans to the tune of Rs 17,290 crore but in the state it was just Rs 5,700 crore, he pointed out.

“The GVMC ID card for a street vendor is enough to grant loans. The bankers should come to markets and treat as a cluster to issue Shishu loans where the traders are doing business.

The traders from various villages are coming to the city and doing business. But bankers are asking them to avail the loan from their village branches, it is wrong. The bankers should understand the ground reality and issue loans where the vendors are doing business,” MP Haribabu said.

Later, the MP said he would visit some more markets in the city and convene a meeting with all the bankers to discuss and find out a solution, he added.
