Eluru: The YSRCP MPs, MLAs and senior leaders flayed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for the delay in the construction of Polavaram Irrigation Project. The YSRCP team visited the Polavaram project on Thursday. They visited ongoing works at the spillway, spill channel, diaphragm wall and rock-fill dam works. They made inquiries with the engineers on the progress of works. Later, the YSRCP leaders addressed the media at the project site.
Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said, “The state government has been misleading the people on Polavaram project construction. The project works are progressing at snail’s pace. In view of recent controversies, the YSRCP team visited the project site.” He alleged that the Chief Minister had taken up the construction of the project from the Centre to get commissions. He suggested to Naidu not to blame the Centre for delay in works. He said that the cofferdam works have not yet started.
Ongole MP YV Subba Reddy said Chandrababu Naidu was responsible for the delay in works. The Chief Minister has failed to fulfil his promise of completion of the project by 2018. It seems that the project works may not complete before 2019, he said. He pointed out that at the time of state bifurcation, it was decided to construct the project by the Centre only. However, the Chief Minister has taken up the project and announced it would be completed by 2019. Senior leader of YSRCP and former minister Botcha Satyanarayana said that the project works were halted at the project site. He said that YS Rajasekhar Reddy had laid foundation stone to the project 12 years ago and succeeded in getting the permissions from the Centre.
Naidu during his nine-year term did not concentrate on the project and YSR had taken up the project, Satyanarayana said. He pointed out that during YSR regime, Rs 4,700 crores was spent on the project. “According to the AP Reorganisation Act, the project has to be taken up by the Centre itself. However, on the request of Naidu, the Centre had endorsed the work to the state.
The Centre raised objections to the tenders invited by the TDP government as those were faulty,” he said and added that the YSRCP will cooperate for the construction of Polavaram project. The R and R package so far has not yet been completed, he pointed out. He suggested that the TDP stop its double standards and not misleading the people. Botcha demanded the Centre to take up the project. MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders participated in the tour.
