AP State seeks Centre’s nod for 9 tourism projects

Vijayawada: The state government’s tourism, culture, heritage committee requested the Union government to accord permission to various tourism projects in the state. The committee sent proposals to Centre for obtaining permission from tourism and archaeology departments.

The nine projects include development of Bhavani Island, entertainment structures in River Krishna, Araku eco-tourism circuit, luxury beach resorts at Kalingapatnam, Madhurawada tourism project, INS Virat Museum, mega Silparamam in Amaravati. The state tourism department has also sought financial assistance from the Centre for various tourism projects.

According to officials, many tourism projects proposed by the state government need permission from Central government departments. The introduction of various tourism projects in Bhavani Island needs environmental clearance as island’s original shape and natural structure are required to be changed according to the needs of proposed master plan of state tourism department. The government has also plans to construct cottages and floating hotels on River Krishna.

Similarly, the tourism department has made plans to construct tourism project in Madhurawada in Visakapatnam, for which 240 acres land has been earmarked. Likewise, the state government has got clearance from defense ministry to handover INS Virat warship to the state government for using it as a museum and also hotel but still there is no clarity about terms and conditions in many aspects. Now the state government is making a move to get clarity for obtaining sanction.

Araku eco-tourism project has assumed significance in tourism development but it needs ‘no-objection certificate’ from Union environment and forest ministry.

A senior official said if the government wants to construct Mega Silparamam in land taken from forest department in Amaravati, the state government need to get fresh approval from the Centre. He said along with permissions, the state government also sought financial assistance from the Union government.
