Amaravati Marathon should get worldwide recognition: Chandrababu Naidu
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said Amaravati Marathon should get worldwide recognition in near future. Giving prizes to winners of Amaravati marathon at IGMC stadium here on Sunday, he recalled that he started 10k run in Hyderabad 23 years ago and now it is among the top two events organised in the country.
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said Amaravati Marathon should get worldwide recognition in near future. Giving prizes to winners of Amaravati marathon at IGMC stadium here on Sunday, he recalled that he started 10k run in Hyderabad 23 years ago and now it is among the top two events organised in the country.
He also said the government would conduct Olympic Games in Amaravati in future and recalled his efforts in organising Afro Asian games and National Games in Hyderabad in the past.
Now smaller countries in the world were conducting Olympic Games, he said and added that a big country like India should have conducted the mega sports event already.
“The children of State are intelligent. They would show good performance, if they are encouraged. The government is encouraging sports in the state,” Naidu said.
He pointed out that the government allotted land for badminton coach P Gopichand to set up an academy. The State government has appointed players P V Sindhu and K Srikanth as Group-1 officers in recognition of their meritorious performance in their sport.
He said the government is promoting sports in the State to make it Arogya Andhra Pradesh and Kreedaandhra Pradesh. He called upon the marathon organisers to conduct Amaravati marathon run in all the municipalities. The government has plans to set up a platform to organise marathons in the State, he revealed.
The Chief Minister distributed mobile phones and Rs 20 lakh prize money to winners. He also congratulated the organisers for successfully conducting the event.
Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, APNRT chairman Vemuru Ravikumar, AP Mahila Cooperative Finance Corporation chairman P Anuradha, Special Chief Secretary L V Subramanyam, Krishna District Collector B Lakshmikantham, Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang and several officials were present on the occasion.
The 21-kilometre marathon run was organized from Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, Vijayawada, to Mandadam village in Amaravati capital region.
