Vijayawada: American Oncology Institute (AOI), a Hyderabad-based chain of cancer hospitals founded by a team of leading oncologists at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre in USA, observed the World Cancer Day, here on Sunday.

The World Cancer Day represents a unique opportunity to draw attention to what can be done to prevent and detect cancer early and save millions of lives. D Gowtham Sawang, Commissioner of Police, Chennupati Vidhya, Vasaavi Mahila Mandali Chairman and Gadde Auradha, Zilla Parisdhad chairperson, graced the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, D Gowtham Sawang, Commissioner of Police, said “Cancer on the rise in the state and country. It is a need for a commitment to help drive advancements in cancer, particularly in states like ours where we have a lot of people with insufficient resources. I strongly believe events like this will go a long way in creating awareness.

I appreciate American Oncology Institute for their endeavours towards raising awareness which should inspire all of us to take action against the world’s most deadly disease. I also request the media fraternity to support American Oncology Institute in spreading the word”.

Dr. Birendra Kumar, Center Head, American Oncology Institute, Guntur, said, “It is important to address the menace of growing incidence of cancer with urgency and in a coordinated manner with due emphasis on prevention, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment. Increased awareness about cancer is imperative as it results in timely detection which is very important in cancer patients as it can prevent death”.
