Srikakulam: The Srikakulam district police adopted scientific system to curb accidents on the national and state highways. With the initiative of Superintendent of Police CM Trivikrama Varma, 11 mobile vehicles arranged for continuous monitoring of 172 km national highway (NH-16) and other state highways. Police identified the accident prone areas on both the national and state highways in eight police station limits- JR Puram, Etcherla, Srikakulam rural, Narasannapeta, Kotabommali, Tekkali, Kanchili and Rajam- across the district.
Eleven mobile vehicles are moving on the NH-16 and state highways towards Rajam, Palakonda, Amudalavalasa and other areas. Movement of these vehicles are being monitored by GPS system from IT core wing working from the district police office through a machine fixed in the vehicle. Each circle inspector has been appointed as an in-charge for each mobile vehicle and the Superintendent of Police is reviewing its functioning with officials for every 15 days.
The multi-pronged strategy yielded positive results which was introduced in July 2017 after CM Trivikrama Varma assumed charge as the Superintendent of Police of Srikakulam. With the scientific management of traffic on important roads, accidents were reduced to 38.3 per cent, deaths came down to 47.7 per cent and the injured persons list was reduced to 26.2 per cent.
‘‘One person’s wrong move may claim the life of another due to accidents. Hence, we started scientific monitoring system and is yielding good results,” said Superintendent of Police CM Trivikrama Varma.
